I don’t know how anyone couldn’t love this place?? The people who own it are friendly and they are clearly all about great customer service. I love the grape chutney that they have on their sandwiches so much I asked if they sold it by the pot – I was told that they didn’t but if I bought in an empty jam jar he would fill it up for me! Can you imagine them doing that in Philpotts!? The food is outstanding quality and although you do pay a little bit more it’s worth every last penny. Anyway, it’s comparable in price to a lot of sandwhich places in central Manchester but far, far better!

Ok, now I don’t know if these guys have got their act together or what. Looking at the reviews from January I wouldn’t have gone (didn’t see them before I went). I was in Manchester for business for work for a long weekend mid may and visited Jack Sprat twice. To put this into context I live in central London and their are some great deli’ but this place was awesome! Very friendly service, great tunes, more importantly the food was superb! I had the ploughmans (lovely ham and cheese) my first day and Philly steak (a warm lump of loveliness) the second, loved both (great bread) and is genuinely the best sandwiches I have had. I’m still getting cravings! Got chatting to one of the guys in there and they seem really passionate about what they do which was nice. In summary, great food, great atmosphere, great service-if your nearby give it a go!

Dear Jack Spratt… please expand (Or would it be stretch?) to London. I would be the most loyal, loving, generous customer you’ve ever known – because holy cow, you really know how to make healthy food filling and delicious!

Those who know me well know that there’s nothing I love more than amazing healthy food. I say “amazing” because although it’s not hard to find, healthy food is usually hard to stomach. You see, healthy food doesn’t have to taste like cardboard, it just usually does… Most restaurants really like to put the “hell” in healthy by shoving some low-carb stale nastyfied “wrap” at the bottom of the menu and naming it something like the “Garden of Eatin’”. Blechh.

There are a few precious eating experiences that manage to merge the healthy with the delicious: Gobo in New York. Laughing Planet in Portland. And now Jack Spratt in Manchester.

No additives, no chemicals, not even salt and sugar (other than to taste) are added to these freshly baked and prepared homemade delights. From fresh fish sandwiches to “Philly cheese steaks” made with a portobello mushroom and even a peanut butter cupcake, I can honestly say it was all hearty and healthy and exactly the kind of feel-good food that I can get behind.

But the question remains… Come to London? Pretty please? Or else my constant cravings and consequent commute will make this the most expensive (and time consuming) lunch on the planet!
